Pre-season testing for the W Series has been called off amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The two-day test was announced last week and was due to be held on May 4 and 5 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
“We are in uncharted territory, in a situation beyond our control,” explained Catherine Bond Muir, the W Series CEO. “The need for social distancing, together with restricted travel, is tough for many businesses, including motorsport. We send support and love to all our drivers, staff, partners, fans and media in these difficult times.”
As of right now, there’s no news on how the rest of the calendar will be impacted, if at all. The season-opener is set for the weekend of May 30 in Russia, to be held alongside the DTM series. At the moment, no DTM races have been cancelled, although their pre-season test that was supposed to be held this week has been cancelled.
When asked about the current COVID-19 situation earlier last week, a W Series spokesperson told Racing Clothesline: “As an FIA-ratified series, W Series will abide by the guidance of the relevant authorities”.
