The Circuit Ricardo Tormo – often called the Circuit de Valencia – in Spain will play host to this year’s 2020 pre-season test for the W Series. This year’s driver lineup will be at the circuit in early May to log some laps in the Tatuus T-318 Formula 3 cars they will be racing.

The two-day test will be held on May 4 and 5, just a few weeks before the season opener at the new Igora Drive in St Petersburg, Russia on May 30.

“Pre-season test days tend to be long and hard, but they’re also vitally important,” W Series Racing Director, Dave Ryan, explained. “For engineers and mechanics, they provide a final opportunity to fine-tune the cars for the race weekends ahead, while the drivers should utilise every available second to learn and/or relearn as much as they can about W Series’ Tatuus T-318 Formula 3 car, as well as working as diligently and as intelligently as they can to optimise their driving technique and technical understanding.”

The Valencia circuit – not to be confused with the abandoned Valencia Street Circuit that hosted the F1 European Grand Prix from 2008 to 2012 – is a 4km circuit. There are a variety of corners, ranging from tight low-speed corners (like turn 2) to long sweeping flat-out corners (likes turn 13), and a couple of long straights to feel the pace of the car.

The circuit wouldn’t be holding a race on the 2020 W Series calendar, nor does it often host races. However, it’s a popular track used for testing in other formulae, including Formula One and Formula E.
