A Pirelli team member has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in the aftermath of the cancelled Australian Grand Prix. The member is now under self-isolation, as specified by Australian health authorities.
According to Pirelli, the team member “has not had any contact with third parties that requires special preventive measures to be taken for other people”.
The Australian Grand Prix was supposed to be held last weekend but was cancelled before the start of Friday practice after a McLaren team member tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The team member, along with other McLaren members, were placed in self-isolation and the team was forced to withdraw from the event. The event was cancelled shortly after, along with other races. According to McLaren, the team member is recovering well and is no longer displaying symptoms.
As for the Pirelli team member, it’s unclear how long the employee will remain in isolation. “Pirelli is closely monitoring the situation in line with public health policies and company guidelines,” the company said in a statement.
