The FIA has officially approved a request made by the promoters of the 2020 Chinese Grand Prix to postpone the event due to the current Coronavirus outbreak. The event was scheduled to take place on the weekend of April 19.

The decision was made to protect the health of staff and fans who travel to the event. The Coronavirus has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation.

The 2020 Chinese Grand Prix is the first F1 event to be postponed since the Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled in 2011 due to civil unrest.

As a result of the postponement, there is now a month-long break in the 2020 calendar between the new Vietnam Grand Prix and returning Dutch Grand Prix.

Currently, F1 management plans to move the event to later in the season. It’s possible that the season finale in Abu Dhabi may be moved into December to make room for the Chinese Grand Prix in late November.
