After more than two months without Formula One, the 2020 F1 season is finally ready to get underway. The sport’s leaders have listed the first 8 European races of the season to be held this summer, with more to be determined at a later date.
According to a press statement, the expectation is to run between 15 and 18 races this year, with the season set to be completed in December, not at the start of 2021. The other races will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
All of the opening races will be “closed events” held without spectators in the stands, although it’s unclear if races later in the year will be open to fans.
The season will start on July 5 in Austria, which will host a doubleheader. There will also be two races held in Silverstone at the start of August, after the Hungarian GP, which has been moved ahead a couple of weeks.
The Spanish Grand Prix takes a new spot in mid-August, having been originally scheduled for mid-May. The Belgian Grand Prix and Italian Grand Prix both wrap up the list of 8 confirmed races, keeping their originally scheduled positions on August 30 and September 6 respectively.
