Carlos Sainz will be joining Ferrari in 2021 as part of a new two-year contract with the team to replace the departing Sebastian Vettel. It has already been confirmed that Sainz’s seat will be filled by Daniel Ricciardo.
This lineup confirmation ends speculation that Lewis Hamilton will be leaving his position on the dominant Mercedes team.
Sainz will be joining Charles Leclerc. This driver lineup is unusual for Ferrari, as the Italian outfit has a history of pairing two experienced drivers. Sainz will have six years of Formula experience and Leclerc will have just three, to create a lineup of just nine years of combined experience.
Sainz has raced on a number of teams since his debut in 2015. His career started Toro Rosso before he made a mid-season switch to Renault to replace Jolyon Palmer. After two seasons on the team, he moved to McLaren to fill the empty seat left behind by the retiring Fernando Alonso.
Now, just two years later, he will be racing on one of Formula One’s most prestigious teams.
