Sergio Pérez is the hero, not the villain, in the Force India drama. This is according to a statement that the Mexican driver released in the aftermath of Force India’s administration announcement.

As reported by Racing Clothesline, Sergio Pérez paved the way for Force India’s administration by filing a court petition for unclaimed funds. The petition was backed by other creditors including Mercedes and BWT. As a result, the team entered administration until a new buyer can be secured.

However, Pérez was upset that the media has painted him as the villain of the story and released a statement claiming that his move was in the best interest of the team and those who work for it. The statement reads:

The team will be competing in the Hungarian Grand Prix as planned and is expected to operate under normal conditions until a buyer is secured for the team.
