A third DRS zone has been added to the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit to boost overtaking, which will help improve the entertainment value of the race. This is the first time that the sport has used three DRS zones on a single circuit.

The circuit previously featured two consecutive DRS zones with a single detection point. The detection point is located between turns 13 and 14, controlling the DRS availability for a DRS zone down the main straight and then another DRS zone after the turn 1 and 2 sequence.

A second DRS detection point has been added to the circuit in the high-speed bend between turns 10 and 11. The new DRS zone will be between turns 12 and 13, allowing for drivers to potentially make an overtaking maneuver through the high-speed kink in the circuit.

The changes are part of the event organizer’s attempt to improve overtaking around the circuit.
