The third day of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was a complete wash, with poor weather preventing almost every team from completing a timed lap. McLaren’s Fernando Alonso was the only driver to set a timed lap.
The start of the pre-season test was delayed for three hours due to heavy snow overnight and into the morning. The circuit was under red flag conditions because of poor visibility which prevented the medical helicopter from flying. Safety regulations require the medical helicopter to be clear to fly in order for a session to start.
McLaren was the first to send a driver out onto the circuit, sending Fernando Alonso out. In total he completed 11 laps and was the only driver able to set a lap time. Daniel Ricciardo also did a couple of out laps before spinning into the gravel and calling it quits for the day. Brendon Hartley, Marcus Ericsson and Robert Kubica also did some exploration laps with the wet tyres, but decided against completing any more laps.
The teams are hoping that the weather will improve on Thursday.
