Force India is likely to be launching more than just their 2018 car at their pre-season launch, with a rebranding reportedly in the works. The team has been considering a rebrand since late last season and the new team name and logo are expected to be revealed at their car launch.
The team has recently expressed their desire to remove “India” from their team name, hoping that it will attract more global sponsors instead of the dwindling list of sponsor companies from India. The new team name has reportedly already been approved by the FIA.
The name Force One was an early favourite, but it was previously revealed by team management that the name is too similar to the sport’s name and wouldn’t be used.
The team already completed the first phase of their efforts to strip the team of the India branding, having ditched the traditional India green, orange and white colors for pink as a result of their partnership with the Austrian company BWT.
Some have even speculated that the 2018 car may not be called the VJM11. The car name may also rebranded to remove associations with the team owner Vijay Mallya, who has been in the news a lot recently, but not for good things.
The team’s car launch is expected to take place on Sunday, February 25 on the day before pre-season testing commences in Barcelona.
