Ferrari failed to win either championship this season, despite their best effort. But let’s analyse the two teammates on the Italian outfit. Who outperformed who and which driver was the best in 2017? The result probably won’t shock you.
Clearly Sebastian Vettel was the better of the two teammates, as Kimi Raikkonen is clearly a secondary driver. This driver lineup is probably the most unbalanced of 2017, which helps Ferrari in their bid to take the drivers’ championship title, but doesn’t make for the most interesting teammate comparison.
With over 100 more points than Raikkonen, Vettel clearly dominated. Vettel won five races, while Raikkonen failed to win any races and stood on the podium nearly half as many times as his German teammate. Vettel had an average finishing position of 2.5, while Raikkonen only had 4.5.
There’s no contest in qualifying pace and race pace either. Vettel outqualified his teammate in three quarters of the races this season and outraced him in all but three races. Whether it be from actual driver performance or just the unbalance of team support provided to each driver, Vettel is clearly the number one driver at Ferrari.
