It’s that time of the week again: time for us to look at the past teams that made an exit from the sport of Formula One, having scored no points. This week, we remember Realpha.

Realpha was a Formula One team with a tragic ending. The car was designed and built by Rhodesian racing driver Ray Reed. The chassis was entered under the name Ray’s Engineering, now often referred to as simply RE, and was fitted with an Alfa Romeo engine.

The car made its racing debut at the non-championship Rand Grand Prix in 1964 in South Africa. The car retired with an engine issue after he had qualified for P17 on the grid. Reed entered the car in the South African Grand Prix less than a month later.

However, Reed never got the chance to race in the event because he was killed in an airplane crash prior to the event. The car was withdrawn.

The following year the car reappeared at the Rhodesian Grand Prix, driven by local racing driver Peter Huson. The car did not complete the race distance due to an accident and it disappeared from the motorsport world.
