It’s Toro Rosso’s turn to get a statistical analysis to determine the performance of their teammates and the results likely won’t shock you. Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat are the only drivers from the team that we will be comparing since Pierre Gasly and Brendan Hartley didn’t race together long enough to accurately judge their performance, along with the Renault fiasco.
It’s not very shocking to say that Carlos Sainz clearly outranked Daniil Kvyat. It’s part of the reason why Sainz was acquired by Renault while Kvyat was shown the door at Toro Rosso. Sainz had a clear advantage in points, scoring 48 points during his time at Toro Rosso compared to Kvyat’s 4.
Kvyat was slightly closer to Sainz in qualifying pace. He out qualified his teammate in six events, while Sainz did so in the remaining eight. But when it came to the racing, Sainz had a clear advantage over Kvyat, finishing higher than him nine of the 13 races they raced together. Kvyat also had a lower average finishing position by nearly four positions.
This isn’t the first time that we’ll see Carlos Sainz in the teammate comparison. He’ll be in the Renault teammate comparison tomorrow.
