Now that the season is over, it’s time to compare the teammates of 2017. Let’s start by comparing the two Sauber teammates. Marcus Ericsson was joined alongside by Pascal Wehrlein for the first and only season, with Wehrlein headed to a career outside of Formula One. But which driver performed best this season?

Admittedly it’s difficult to draw attention when you’re in a back-marker car like the Sauber, so neither driver really stood out this season. However, the statistics show some clearly strong performance from Wehrlein in 2017.

Wehrlein scored all of the team’s points in 2017, retired less times than his Swedish teammate and had a slightly higher average finishing position in the races that he finished. He was also able to out qualify and out race his teammate in more than half of the grand prix in 2017.

Statistics don’t lie: Pascal Wehrlein had the edge on Marcus Ericsson in 2017.
