Liberty Media to axe long standing F1 logo

A logo change could be in the cards for 2018, as the sport files applications for three new logo designs. The new logo would replace the existing logo, which has been featured in the sport since 1993.

The Formula One Group and Formula One Licensing BV have filed trademark applications with the World Intellectual Property Office for three proposed Formula One logo designs. The designs applications were filed on November 17, 2017 and include registration for the image, with and without the “Formula 1” text.

The modern Formula One logo was designed by Carter Wong and adopted into the sport officially in 1993, replacing the traditional FIA Formula 1 World Championship logo which featured “FIA” with an F1 car imposed into the letters. The current logo features a black “F” and transparent “1” followed by a red design.

The logo is expected to be replaced for the 2018 season, with one of the following three designs to be selected:
