Pierre Gasly will give up on his chance to win the Super Formula championship title, instead opting to race with Toro Rosso at the United States Grand Prix. He will spend the remainder of the 2017 season with the team, as Daniil Kvyat also returns to the team and Sainz moves to Renault.

Kvyat was replaced by Gasly for the race in Malaysia and the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix. He will be returning to the team for the rest of the season, taking over Carlos Sainz’s seat. Both Kvyat and Gasly are excepted to remain with the team for 2018.

Meanwhile, Sainz will make his move to Renault for the rest of the season. He will be replacing Jolyon Palmer, who no finds himself without a drive for the rest of 2017. It was already confirmed that Sainz would be replacing Palmer in 2018 and some expected it to happen much earlier. The early termination of Palmer’s contract is said to have been a “mutual agreement” between the team and Palmer.

By racing in the United States, Gasly will be giving up his chance at winning the championship title for the Super Formula series, in which he is only half a point behind the leader. The finale of the season will happen at Suzuka during the same weekend as the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.
