Toro Rosso’s likely candidate for their 2018 racing seat, Pierre Gasly, is targeting rest of the races in the Formula One season, despite a date clash with the final race of the Super Formula series. Choosing to race in the Formula One race in the United States would mean that he would forfeit his chance at the Super Formula title.

Gasly was brought to the team at the Malaysian Grand Prix. It has since been confirmed that he will be racing at the Japanese Grand Prix, a circuit at which he has a lot of previous experience. It’s unknown how many other Formula One races that Gasly will be at Toro Rosso for, although it was originally expected that Daniil Kvyat would be back in the car for the United States Grand Prix, since the event date clashed with the finale of the Super Formula series.

Five points finishes, including two race wins and second place finish puts Gasly just half a point behind Hiroaki Ishiura for the championship title of the series. However, Gasly has told the media that he would choose to race in the United States Grand Prix instead of the Super Formula finale in Japan, if Toro Rosso were to offer him the chance.

It’s unknown whether or not Gasly has been offered a chance to race at Toro Rosso for the United States Grand Prix. It’s also unknown whether or not there are any ongoing discussions with the team to offer Gasly the 2018 seat.
