There was an unusual situation at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that caught my eye on Tuesday: the bus stuck in the gravel trap. That got me thinking: “Why doesn’t Formula One do this?”

Naturally, I’m not talking about beaching a city bus in the gravel pit, but rather the idea of driving fans around the circuit before the race. This is a great idea that I don’t think has been done in Formula One.

Liberty Media has been doing a great job interacting with the fans and giving them some quality entertainment. They’ve been doing such a fantastic job so far and a bus tour around the circuit looks quite doable.

Of course, Formula One has that dual seat car that lets you get driving around the circuit, but that is expensive. Formula One needs to start making some entertainment for those who don’t have a ton of money to throw around. A bus around the circuit would be a perfect way to do it.

Now, a gentle cruise around the circuit, although quite cool, may not be enough to entertain the petrol heads that flock to Formula One races. So perhaps getting a driver like Bernd Maylander to drive the car at a decent speed around the circuit and provide fans with some thrill.

They drive busses around the Nürburgring all of the time, so why not around a Formula One circuit. It may be something worth trying.
