Felipe Massa will get to keep his retirement gift from the Williams F1 Team, despite having returned for the 2017 season.
The 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was originally intended to be Massa’s final race, as the 35 year old Brazilian planned to put his Formula One career to rest after nearly a decade and a half in the sport. However, Massa wasn’t the only driver to retire at the end of the season, as Nico Rosberg left the sport shortly after winning his first career World Drivers’ Championship title.
The surprise exit caused the Mercedes team to snatched up Valtteri Bottas from Williams. This prompted an invitation for Massa to return to the sport to fill the gap left by Bottas.
Despite postponing his retirement, Massa will still keep his retirement gift from the team: the chassis from what was supposed to be his final Brazilian Grand Prix. Reportedly, the chassis remains at the Williams F1 Team factory with Massa’s name on it.
