The FIA has decided not to take any further action against Sebastian Vettel for his foul language and behavior over the team radio at the Mexican Grand Prix. The FIA felt that Vettel’s apologies were sincere and that the incident did not warrant any further action, although the FIA has said that any future outbursts of this nature by any competitor will have consequences.
Following Vettel’s outburst over team radio at the Mexican Grand Prix, the FIA launched an investigation to decide whether Vettel should be punished for the incident. He had violated multiple FIA International Sporting Regulations and the FIA could have imposed any punishment ranging from a reprimand to a suspension.
The FIA has announced that the FIA President, Jean Todt, has decided not to punish Sebastian Vettel for the incident. The statement from the FIA read:
“In the light of this sincere apology and strong commitment, the FIA President has decided, on an exceptional basis, not to take disciplinary action against Mr Vettel by bringing this matter before the FIA International Tribunal.”
According to the FIA, Vettel sought out Charlie Whiting after the race to apologize in person. After that he also sent letters to Todt and Whiting to express his regrets for his conduct. He also told the pair that he would be contacting Max Verstappen to apologize and promised that the incident will not occur again.
The FIA was pleased with the apology and opted to let the issue go. However, the FIA warned any drivers that may be thinking of repeating this behavior in the future:
“The FIA takes this opportunity to advise that, in the event of any future incident similar to the one that occurred in Mexico, disciplinary action will be taken by bringing such incident before the FIA International Tribunal to be judged.”
