McLaren’s Tooned series made a special return on Saturday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of James Hunt’s World Championship title victory in the 1976 season. The short film features Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso and reveals a secret about James Hunt and the entire McLaren team.

Tooned was an animated series available on McLaren’s YouTube channel. It originally premiered midway through the 2012 season and featured the team’s drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. It returned again in 2013 for a second season which featured special McLaren mock-history videos for the 50th anniversary of the company.

The videos often cracked jokes about the team and the drivers, even suggesting that Mika Häkkinen was a superhero. This special episode was no different, as it showed the team’s great sense of humor despite their subpar position in Formula One at the moment. The team even included the “Places Alonso Would Rather Be” meme in the episode.

Unfortunately, very little of the video was actually new. Most of it was recycled footage from episode 4 of season 2, which originally aired on September 9, 2013. The only new footage were the clips featuring the team’s current drivers: Alonso and Button. Although Jenson Button has been in the show many times, this is Fernando Alonso’s first appearance in the show. Freddie Hunt made an appearance, acting as the voice of his late father.
