A Manor had a near-miss with one of the Haas cars near the start of the third free practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix. The incident was investigated by the stewards and has resulted in a grid penalty for the race on Sunday.
The incident occurred during the final free practice session on Saturday morning in turn four. Pascal Wehrlein attempted to overtake the slow-moving Haas of Esteban Gutiérrez, but was forced to do so on the grass at the inside of the turn because Gutiérrez had not given him a car width of space and was still on the racing line.
The incident prompted an investigation by the stewards and resulted in a five-place grid penalty for Gutiérrez, as well as three penalty points on his license. This penalty means that Gutiérrez will start from P18 on the grid, having qualified for P13. It also means that Gutiérrez has five penalty points on his license, making him the driver with the second-most penalty points, behind Daniil Kvyat.
Gutiérrez was not the only one called to the stewards for impeding after the practice session. Kevin Magnussen was accused of blocking Sebastian Vettel, but an investigation deemed that no further action was required.
