The mother in-law of Bernie Ecclestone, Aparecida Schunck, was rescued by police after being kidnapped and held for ransom. Three suspected have been arrested for the kidnapping.
As reported by Racing Clothesline last week, the mother of Ecclestone’s current wife, Fabiana Flosi, was kidnapped in São Paulo and was being held ransom for roughly €33.2m. The suspects reportedly wanted the ransom money paid out in four bags at drop points, but the police were able to locate Schunck and rescue her without injuries.
Two suspects, Vitor Oliveira Amorim and David Vicente Azevedo, were arrested on Sunday for their involvement in the crime after police uncovered fingerprints and CCTV footage of the kidnappers exchanging vehicles. A third was arrested after the police were able to trace a series of phone calls between the third suspect and the two other people who were arrested. The third suspect is Jorge Eurico da Silva, a helicopter pilot for Ecclestone and his family, and he is allegedly the mastermind behind the kidnapping.
Brazilian authorities have reported that no ransom was paid to the criminals and no gunshots were fired during the rescue operation. Schunck was found in Cotia, a town near São Paulo, and has been safely rescued without any injury.
