Jenson Button was transferred to hospital with twenty minutes remaining in the second free practice session for the German Grand Prix. The Brit was complaining of eye irritation after only 16 laps of running at the circuit.
Button exited the car and ended his session after only 16 laps. He made a visit to the track medical centre and was later transferred to the Mannheim hospital for further checkups. Doctors at the hospital reportedly removed a foreign object from Button’s eye.
Button has returned to the circuit and has confirmed, via a Tweet, that he is uninjured and will be ok to take part in the free practice session and qualifying on Saturday.
Since the incident involved a visit to the hospital, it is unclear whether Button will require a medical inspection from the FIA medical team before taking part in any sessions. However, it is highly unlikely that this will be required because the incident was so minor and it is greatly unlikely that Button will fail the test if the FIA decides to conduct one.
Stoffel Vandoorne is reportedly standing by in case Button is not able to complete the weekend.
On my way back to Hockenheim from the Mannheim hospital for an eye examination, foreign body found & removed. All good for tomorrow ???? #JB22
