Recent reports from the Brazilian media suggests that the mother-in-law of the F1 Supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, has been kidnapped and held ransom in Brazil.
According to the Brazilian magazine, Veja, Aparecida Schunck was kidnapped in São Paulo on Friday. The kidnappers are reportedly requesting R$120 million (roughly €33.2m), which would be the largest ransom demand in Brazilian history.
Schunck is the mother of Ecclestone’s current wife, Fabiana Flosi. The couple met each other during the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix, at which Flosi was working. The pair got married in 2012.
This isn’t the first time that the Ecclestone family has been the target of a kidnapping situation. Tamara Ecclestone, the daughter of Bernie Ecclestone, received abduction threats in 2012. The kidnapper reportedly wanted £400 000 (roughly €240 000). The incident led to the arrest of Martin Peckham, a dental technician, and he was sentenced for five years on charges of blackmail.
The reports of the kidnapping has not yet been confirmed by the family or the Brazilian authorities.
