More than three hours after the checkered flag fell on qualifying, Nico Rosberg was summoned to the stewards for failing to slow down for the yellow flags for Fernando Alonso’s spin in Q3. The stewards have reached their decision.
The incident in question occurred during the final qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso spun on the exit of turn nine, bringing out the double waved yellow flags in that section. When Rosberg arrived at the accident, he reportedly lifted off of the accelerator, as required to do under the current regulations for safety purposes. However, the stewards launched an investigation into the incident, to see whether Rosberg actually did slow down to the extent that the regulations require.
Over three hours passed before the stewards publically summoned Rosberg in regards to the incident. To make matters worse for the German, the lap in question was also the lap that gave him pole position, after Hamilton’s lap was slowed by the same yellow flags.
After roughly an hour of discussions and investigations, the stewards have decided that no further action is required. Nico Rosberg will keep his pole position, remaining on the front row of the grid with his teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
