Following their recent points scoring performance at the Austrian Grand Prix, Manor Racing will be appointing a new CEO. The company will be taking the Renault F1 Team’s current chief operating officer at the start of next month.
Manor has hired Thomas Mayer, a graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management and the Renault F1 Team’s chief operating officer. Mayer first joined Formula One in 2012 to take over the position of chief operating officer at the Lotus F1 Team. When the team transferred ownership last year, he maintained his position on the team.
The owner of Manor Racing, Stephen Fitzpatrick, says that Mayer will be vital to the team’s continued growth and improvements:
“This is a time of growth and development for Manor Racing. We’ve been pushing hard to get the team back on track – figuratively and literally – and our recent point-scoring performance in the Austrian Grand Prix shows that we’re making progress.
Thomas will bring people together and help us focus clearly to accelerate improvement. He brings highly relevant F1 business experience, as well as a strong engineering background, and he shares our passion to succeed and challenger spirit. I’m delighted that he has agreed to join the team to spearhead our longer term strategy.”
The team has shown great development since they were converted from the Marussia F1 Team. The improvements were confirmed at the Austrian Grand Prix when Pascal Wehrlein gave the team their first point since Jules Bianchi at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix. The team’s performance continues to improve.
“I am excited to join Manor Racing, a team with the capability to fight for points and push the boundaries,” Mayer added. “I am looking forward to making the name Manor Racing synonymous with an unconventional and innovative approach to achieving performance.“
