Imola has shown that they are serious in getting the Italian Grand Prix moved from Monza to their race facility. The owners of the circuit have filed an appeal in the Italian courts because they feel that the Italian sporting authorities are favoring Monza over Imola.

As reported by Racing Clothesline on Monday, Imola has signed an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone to host the Italian Grand Prix once Monza’s contract expires. The circuit management has signed the agreement and Bernie Ecclestone is waiting for approval from the Automobile Club d’Italia before he signs the agreement.

Imola announced today that they have filed an appeal in the courts because the circuit owners feel that the ACI is unfairly favoring Monza. Amidst financial crisis, Monza has been receiving funding for renovations and operating costs, but this money has not been made available to Imola, which is in a far better financial position than the current Italian Grand Prix hosts.

Imola representatives say that it’s unfair for the circuit to not be properly considered to host the Italian Grand Prix, especially since they have signed the same agreement that had been previously offered to Monza, but denied.

In a statement issued by the circuit owners, they expressed the importance of this issue: “We want the national bodies to jointly assess and constructively look at every possible option to prevent such a serious risk to the country’s image, in terms of sporting.”
