With Formula One currently up for sale, people have been quick to start speculation about which companies have put in a bid for the sport. The latest rumors involve Apple and their reported interest in purchasing a majority stake in Formula One.
Apple, the American based multinational technology giant behind the iPhone, iPod, Mac computer and many other technical innovations, is the latest company rumored to be preparing a bid for a majority stake in Formula One. The multi-billion dollars company has more than enough funds to spend on Formula One and the purchase could greatly benefit some of Apple’s other creations.
Apple TV, a digital media player and streaming device, didn’t quite catch on at the level that Apple would have hoped, having been overshadowed by the less expensive Android TV Boxes. A successful bid in Formula One would give Apple access to the broadcasting rights and could give them the ability to air Formula One races on the Apple TV service. This would likely increase the number of users purchasing their service.
It’s also no secret that Apple has an interest in entering the car market. They are even rumored to be conducting research and development on an electric car that may feature autonomous driving technology. Not only would owning a stake in Formula One give Apple access to some of the top car manufacturers in the world, but it would also give Apple some access to Formula-E, as they would also have a seat on the FIA, the organization that governs both Formula One and Formula-E.
At the moment, Apple’s bid is only rumored. Racing Clothesline has contacted Apple for comment, but they have not replied. Stay tuned to Racing Clothesline if there are any more updates about this topic.
