Recent speculation has suggested that the future of the Brazilian Grand Prix is in doubt for the 2017 season, as Bernie Ecclestone has commented that it may not be on the calendar. Despite this speculation, the organizers of the event feel that the Brazilian Grand Prix will be safe.
Interpub, the current organizers of the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, currently have a contract to be included on the Formula One calendar until 2020. In a statement released by the event organizers on Tuesday, they have stated that Formula One would not have any legal ground to breach that contract. They feel that this will guarantee the safety of the Grand Prix until the contract expires in 2020.
The doubt about the future of the event hasn’t scared the organizers at all either, as they reveal further track renovations to be completed for the event this year. According to their statement, the City of São Paulo will be funding phase three of the renovations, which will mean expanding the paddock. This will give the teams a bigger area to conduct their work during the race weekend.
The event organizers have also reached out to Formula One’s newest partner, Heineken. The company will be the exclusive provider of beer at this year’s event. Brazil is one of Heineken’s key growth markets, according to the organizers of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
This year’s Brazilian Grand Prix will be the penultimate round of the 2016 Formula One season. The race will be held on the weekend of November 13 at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, formerly Interlagos.
