Formula One is in Canada, the home of Racing Clothesline, for the Canadian Grand Prix. Three teams have topped the weekend, shuffling positions throughout the weekend, but which of these teams can bring home the race victory.
Named after the legendary Ferrari driver who was tragically killed during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is the circuit that will be hosting this year’s Canadian Grand Prix, as has been the case since 1978. The circuit is fast and there are a few technical sections mixed in. The hairpin is a good corner to see some overtaking and it is vital to get that section done at maximum performance in order to get the fastest speed on the straight that follows. Another iconic corner is the infamous Wall of Champions, which has already claimed a car this weekend.
The top three teams this weekend are Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull. Red Bull has shown a massive improvement in pace this season and are serious contenders for a race victory, maybe not in Canada, but certainly during other rounds in the season. The newest Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen, has managed to outperform his teammate in all of the sessions this weekend, except for qualifying, meaning that he will start behind Daniel Ricciardo.
Ferrari and Mercedes have swapped positions multiple times throughout the weekend. Mercedes has been on top for all of the sessions this weekend, except for free practice three, in which Sebastian Vettel was the fastest. Ferrari is still hungry for victory this season, having failed to finish in front, despite their earlier comments about being serious competition for the Silver Arrows. They will be looking to prove the doubters wrong and show that they can outperform the World Constructors’ Championship leaders.
