Pirelli organized a private tyre test with the cooperation of Ferrari. The test was held on May 3 with Jean-Eric Vergne behind the wheel testing some of Pirelli’s 2017 tyre components.
The test was held at the Fiorano Circuit, a private test track owned by Ferrari in the Italian town of Maranello. The circuit has been used for many years to test the cars for the Ferrari Formula One team and the Italian car maker’s road cars. Since its opening in 1972, the circuit has been equipped with various features that are useful when testing cars. The circuit has various telemetry sensors, an irrigation system for rain simulation and a skid pad for testing tyres.
Ferrari provided Pirelli with their test driver, Jean-Eric Vergne. They also provided the Italian tyre manufacturer with a Ferrari F14-T, the car used by Ferrari in the 2014 Formula One season.
The car was equipped with tyres that comply with the 2016 regulations regarding dimensions. The tyres were fitted with some of the prototype concepts that Pirelli is developing for the 2017 season. The data collected will be used when Pirelli begins designing their new larger tyres for 2017, the first season in Pirelli’s new three-year development programme.
