The debut of Pirelli’s new ultrasoft tyre compound has been bumped up to the Monaco Grand Prix. The tyre’s race debut was previously set for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Because Pirelli’s deadlines for submitting their tyre compound choices for a Grand Prix within Europe are shorter compared to a Grand Prix located outside of Europe, the Canadian Grand Prix was announced as the new ultrasoft tyre’s debut. This was because the deadline for the Canadian Grand Prix’s tyre choices closed before the tyre compound choices for Monaco. Now that the deadline for Monaco’s tyre choices has arrived, Pirelli can confirm that the new Pirelli ultrasoft tyre will make its debut in the narrow streets of Monaco.
The Italian tyre manufacturer has confirmed the ultrasoft, supersoft and soft tyres as the three tyre compounds available for the weekend, along with the intermediate and wet tyres if the conditions require them. Pirelli has selected the supersoft and soft tyres has the mandatory tyres that must be used at some time during the race, while the new ultrasoft tyre is assigned for Q3.
The ultrasoft tyre compound is the softest of the 2016 tyre compounds and has provided a great lap time difference during the pre-season testing in Barcelona. The ultrasoft tyres are perfect for the narrow, winding streets of Monaco, as they provide the best grip and great speed.
The Monaco Grand Prix will be held on the weekend of May 29 at the Circuit de Monaco and is the sixth round of the 2016 Formula One season. The following round in Canada will also feature the ultrasoft tyres.
