Despite many doubts, it was announced that the United States Grand Prix will go ahead as planned at Circuit of The Americas. The circuit was also able to confirm their post-race concert.
Following a rather wet weekend at Circuit of The Americas for the 2015 United States Grand Prix, there was doubt that the event would return in 2016 due to some financial troubles. The event was included on the FIA’s final revision of the 2016 Formula One season schedule, but was listed as unconfirmed. It was confirmed on Wednesday by the circuit.
This will be the fifth United States Grand Prix held at Circuit of The Americas. The circuit was able to confirm their special concert for this anniversary: Taylor Swift. She will follow Elton John’s performance last season and join a list of A-list luminaries that have previously performed at the event, including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Jay Z, and Pharrell Williams.
This will be Swift’s first performance since ending her The 1989 World Tour for her critically acclaimed album, 1989. The ten-time Grammy winning singer, musician and songwriter was the youngest and only female solo artist to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year twice. The American singer began her career in 2004 and has released many hit country and pop songs since then.
The Chairman and CEO of Circuit of The Americas, Bobby Epstein, is looking forward to this year’s event:
“We are so happy to confirm F1’s return to COTA as well as Taylor Swift’s headline performance. We can’t think of a better way to mark this important 5-year milestone for F1 in Austin. Since we first hosted this event in 2012, we have gained a lot of knowledge and insight that has allowed us to make significant annual improvements to the event that we are confident will continue to establish the FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX as the standout race weekend on F1’s calendar. By combining the excitement of Formula 1, the fun of the festival, and a full concert by Taylor Swift, we ensure fans can enjoy the greatest sports and entertainment event of the year. We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to Texas and the Circuit of The Americas, for what promises to be an amazing weekend.”
The Formula One cars will be on the track on the weekend of October 23 for this season’s United States Grand Prix, during which the Haas F1 Team will be participating in their first home Grand Prix. The circuit will also be hosting the MotoGP race on the weekend of April 10 and the X Games on the June 5 weekend.
