The Sauber F1 Team will be running a new head of track engineering for the upcoming season, as their long-time employee, Giampaolo Dall’Ara, departs from the team. This makes room for a new team member that will be taking over the position.

Giampaolo Dall’Ara, an Italian mechanical engineer, joined the Swiss team in 2000. He served as the team’s test engineer for the season, being promoted to the head of test engineering the next season. After spending some time as the team’s race engineer, he was given the position of the head of track engineering.

“Giampaolo Dall’Ara has decided to leave our company after more than 15 years of service to pursue another challenge,” a spokesperson of the Sauber F1 Team told Racing Clothesline. “We would like to thank Giampaolo for his dedicated and highly valued collaboration over all these years. We wish him all the best for the future.”

It has yet to be confirmed what will be the next step is his career, but Dall’Ara has been linked with BMW’s team in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters series. Although it’s sad for the team to have lost an engineer with so much experience, the team also had some good news to confirm, saying, “At the same time, we are very pleased to announce Timothy Malyon as our new Head of Track Engineering. Tim has been working for more than ten years for one of the big F1 teams. We are confident that we can benefit from his longtime experience in order to improve our performance.”

Malyon is no rookie to Formula One, having spent 11 years with Red Bull Racing as a race engineer, among other engineering positions with Red Bull Racing and Jaguar. It has not been confirmed who will be filling his position as race engineer in charge of car performance.
