With the return of Sergio Pérez’s home Grand Prix, after a 23 year absence from Formula One, Force India held a special competition.

The Sahara Force India Formula One team and Alpinestars, a protective gear manufacturer, held the #Mexifan competition. The goal was to design a special racing suit for Pérez to wear during this weekend of racing. The winner was announced at the Force India garage at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Thursday.

The winning design features an Aztec pyramid against a blazing sunset. The suit was designed by Ric Scott of Cumbria in the United Kingdom. Pérez will wear the special suit throughout the Mexican Grand Prix weekend. The design was so well liked by Pérez that Alpinestars and Sahara Force India also created a pair of special racing gloves and boots to go with the suit.

“I am really happy to be able to wear a suit with such a cool design for my home race,” Sergio Pérez told the press. “The winning design is perfectly Mexican: it celebrates my country’s history and our culture. Racing in my home Grand Prix is a dream come true, something I have only been able to imagine for many years, and to have this special suit is going to make it even more special: it’s exciting and I can’t wait to wear it.”

In total, there were over 250 entries into the competition. The competition was open globally and received a large amount of entries from Pérez’s home crowd. Most of the entries were designed by professional and amateur designers.

In honor of the return of the Mexican Grand Prix to the Formula One calendar, Sergio Pérez and the Force India team will present a racing suit to the Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto, at some time during the weekend.
