Much like his 2015 season with McLaren’s new Honda engine, Jenson Button’s summer break has had a rocky start. For many, summer break is a time for relaxing and escaping the stresses of everyday life. Button’s vacation in France has been the opposite.
The 2009 World Champion was vacationing with his wife, a 30 year old fashion model, Jessica Michibata at the French Riviera. During the night, the couple was reportedly gassed with an anesthetic. Jenson and Jessica are reportedly healthy, but burglars had robbed them. French police believe that the sleeping gas was pumped in through the mansion’s air conditioning vents.
It is believed that two men were responsible for the robbery, but there are no reports of any arrests and no details about the investigation are being published at this time. The thieves took off with a reported £300 000 worth of property, including Jessica’s engagement ring. The ring was snatched from the room in which Jenson and his wife lay unconscious in bed.
According to Jenson Button’s spokesperson, “The police have indicated that this has become a growing problem in the region with perpetrators going so far as to gas their proposed victims through the air conditioning units before breaking in.”
It is unknown at the moment whether the stolen items will be located, although the police will surely make an attempt to recover the missing property. Hopefully, Jenson Button and his wife will have a safe and relaxing summer break for whatever time remains before we return to Belgium.
