The 2014 Formula One season was certainly a season that has engraved itself in the sport’s history. What was predicted to be a boring season, turned out to be a rigorous battle between two men. And we must not forget the rest of the field which also deserve a place in history. These are just a few reasons why the 2014 season is the season to remember.

Perhaps the most memorable thing about 2014 was the Mercedes domination. It wasn’t so much the fact that Mercedes was leading, but rather the drama between the team’s drivers. Whether it was the tight battle in Bahrain, the qualifying conflict in Monaco, the contact in Belgium or the 0.007 lead in the Singapore qualifying session, there was always something from the Mercedes team topping the headlines. Both drivers were very evenly matched and were both capable of winning the title and therefore presented the fans with a championship that was down to the wire and full of surprises. And Mercedes’ stellar season will surely have an impact of the future of the sport. The domination of the mighty Red Bull has finally come to a screeching halt and the era of the Silver Arrows may just be getting started, as the German team earns their first World Constructor’s Championship.

But enough about the Mercedes. The Mercedes have been the center of attention for the entire season and the smaller teams that are trying their best have been pushed into the background. We can’t forget about Marussia, who scored their first and final championship points in Monaco. After years of hard work, Jules Bianchi was finally able to reward the team. Unfortunately, Marussia will also make the history books for their sad exit from the sport. Struggling with finances, the team wasn’t able to finish all of the 2014 season and despite their new success, were not able to get an investor.

The money issues in the sport will also make the history books, although that isn’t really a good thing for the season to be remembered for. Caterham and Marussia both missed races because of these money issues and there were threats of other teams being forced to drop out. Nevertheless, we were able to overcome the damage and will only be missing one team in 2015.

2014 will not only be remembered for the amazing drivers and teams, but also for the event organizers and all of the hard work that they put into giving us some wonderful Grand Prix events. We saw the first night race at Bahrain, which turned out to be a smashing success. We also saw the triumphant return of the Austrian Grand Prix after a decade. And we can’t forget the first Russian Grand Prix that was also a great success.

Indeed, 2014 turned out to be a great year of racing and has set the bar very high for next season. There are so many great things that we will forever remember and share with future fans. However, there is one tragic thing that we must never forget. We must not forget Jules Bianchi who is still fighting for his life in hospital after suffering a horrific accident during the Japanese Grand Prix. Everyone in the Formula One world is still wishing Jules and his loved ones the best as they await positive news soon.
