According to his management team, seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher is awake, after spending the last five and a half months in a medically induced coma following a skiing accident in the French Alps. The 45 year old has now left the Grenoble University Hospital in France and has now been transferred to the Lausanne University Hospital in western Switzerland, where he will begin his long journey on the road to what is hopefully a full recovery.
No further details about the Formula One racing legend’s medical state were provided. Though the media was told earlier this month that a full recovery is severely unlikely, Schumacher’s family, friends and fans will be hoping for the best.
“His family would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months. The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes.” – Sabine Kehm (Michael Schumacher’s manager)
I’m sure that I speak for everyone in the Formula One community when I wish Schumacher and his loved ones the best, as they start on the road to rehabilitation.
